What to be sad about

Bismillah.

Below is the gist from the lecture series by Shaykh Abdul Aziz (Baba Aziz) last weekend. I was not able to attend due to 'worldly matters' (sigh), thanks to Sister Mastura & Ina for sharing.

Baba Aziz said:
We should be sad - hazan. Hazan means sad. We should be sad because we are so rude towards Allah. When we pray, we are not khusyuk. We are not attentive in our prayers. We go against His rules, we don't follow the syaria't properly. We are ignorant, we are jahil. So we should be sad about all that and many more.

We should discipline our lower nafs. We should talk less, sleep less and eat less. When we eat, take the usual portion but throw away half and gradually reduce the portion of your food. Try not to talk too much or talk nonsense. Only speak what is necessary and when necessary.

Do not love dunya too much. Live on zuhud principle; take only what you need, not what you want. Be satisfied with your lot - qanaah and be grateful, shukur with what you have. This will lead you to taslim (submission), tawfid and tawakkal.

Many people are afraid of death, don't be. Just accept it as a place where you belong.

Wallahu a'lam.
