Until He makes it successful

Bismillah.

Finding one's own true purpose in life and finding oneself can be tricky. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

Alhamdulillah we have the moon, our Prophet salallah alaihi wasalam and many stars (the habaib and ulama) to guide us. Alhamdulillah we have a deen not just to follow but to propagate. You may recall the advice given by Habib Salem Ba'abad of Yemen last month that there should not be a day which passes without us doing something for the deen

Yesterday we heard Habib Ali Zaenal Abidin made an important point on TV about the greatest da'ie of all time - the Prophet salallah alaihi wasalam. Although the Prophet had sacrificed and struggled the most for Islam, the Prophet, according to Habib Ali, had not said: 'Until I succeed.' Instead, he said: 'Until Allah makes this religion successful.'

Such is the Prophet's unassuming character and humility despite having the most noble profession and living the best of lifestyles. So we'll have to think carefully about defining and/or assigning success to others and ourselves. Let's not do things to make it a success but let's just do it and wait for Allah to make it successful.

Allahu 'alam.
